Knowing the Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
The symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome can range from the mildly uncomfortable to the amazingly embarrassing. Many people live with this condition for years before they mention it to their doctor, as it is one that comes and goes. Understanding more about the symptoms of IBS can allow you to get some direction as far as if you have it and whether you need to visit the doctor. What are some of the symptoms?
Stomach Pain and/or Cramping
This pain can be slight or it can be disabling. It can occur at most anytime, but most IBS sufferers find that it happens when they eat.
Diarrhea or Constipation
This diarrhea can be explosive in nature and it can alternate with constipation, which can leave you feeling full and yucky. This is one of the most embarrassing symptoms as explosive diarrhea can make it difficult to get to the bathroom in time.
Flatulence (Gas)
This can be another slightly embarrassing issue, especially if you work in an office or you are with other people. No one wants to have gas and share it with others. This can be one of the symptoms that you want to get help with from your physician.
Bloating
This feeling of fullness can make it difficult to focus, sleep, and more. It is just uncomfortable. This usually goes along with the above symptom, gas, and makes it difficult to be around people, unless necessary.
IB syndrome is a collection of complaints. While these symptoms can indicate a number of health conditions, your physician will be able to determine if IBS is the culprit or if it could be another condition. If you suspect you have IBS from looking at the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, you want to make a doctor’s appointment, as they can help you to feel better and be able to live your life.
